It’s been so quiet around here.
My life’s pen has been writing so fast, so furiously, I haven’t had a moment to catch my breath. I’ll hopefully have a chance to share soon, but this post isn’t about me. It’s about something much bigger.
A few years ago I met a very special woman named Jessie. Charlotte is a fairly big city, but it’s one of those cities where worlds collide all the time. A friend-of-a-friend, Jessie is one of those people you instantly want to be friends with – she and I happen to share a love for mildy-inappropriate hip hop and for that and other reasons, I love her.
From what little I know of Jessie, I know a few things to be true – she’s fiercely loyal, she’s a wonderful writer and she’s an amazing mother to the handsome Noah Fox and resilient miracle that is Sparrow Song.
Sweet Sparrow was born with several major heart defects. She has already undergone two major heart surgeries since birth and now on the heels of celebrating her 3rd birthday, Sparrow will have her last surgery on October 16, 2013…and this one is a doozy. Sparrow’s surgery, called The Fontan, is the last, the longest and the scariest of all her surgeries so far.
In an effort to support Jessie and her family through this procedure, I’m asking you to pray and pray hard. Pray for the surgeons, pray for Sparrow’s sweet little heart, pray for Jessie and her family as they wait and anticipate, pray for the 2+ week recovery in the hospital, pray for favor. I’ve witnessed the amazing power of prayer and THIS family needs all the prayer and support we can give.
Here is Sparrow’s story and below are the ways you can give, beyond prayer, if you feel so inclined:
Here’s a list of ways you can help, or items you might already have that you can donate. Jessie is planning to donate most of the items to Levine Children’s Hospital after Sparrow’s stay, so that more sick children will be blessed by your donations.”
*Age-appropriate movies (DVD’s)
*Books & puzzles – The girl LOVES books and puzzles!
*Art & Education – Paper, pens, colors, crayons and anything that would help Sparrow in learning how to write her letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. She is VERY interested in learning.
*Anything & Everything Kitties – she’s obsessed. Hello Kitty, stuffed kitties, cats, kittens, lions, tigers, she loves them all. She sings Katy Perry’s “Roar” everyday.
*Sparrow has a Leapster Explorer and a Leapster Tag – games and books for both of these devices would be a HUGE help! They are educational and entertaining.
*Sparrow also loves Squinkies – they’re tiny figurines that she collects.
*Flowers, balloons, cards, accessories, and treats
Here is a PO Box to mail items to: 401 Hawthorne Lane Suite 110 #200 Charlotte, NC 28204
If you would like to help financially, please do. Sparrow’s last surgery totaled more than $64,000 and that was only for ONE day in the hospital. This surgery will certainly be more expensive, coupled with the 2+ weeks recovery stay in the hospital, the cost is seemingly insurmountable at this point. But I know miracles DO happen and hospital bills like these CAN be overcome with the support of friends, family and even random people…people who KNOW that life is NOT measured by the money we owe.
Thank you all and I hope you join me in fighting for this family and this sweet, special Song.
